A Weekly Devotional from Steve Higginbotham |

Father's Day by Steve Higginbotham June 19, 2009 |

Amidst the hustle and
bustle of day to day living, one will periodically find moments to reflect
on life. Recently, I had a few of those moments, and realized that my
"babies" are growing up. Actually, their ages are 21,17,12, and 8 years of
age respectively. So you're thinking, "They haven't been 'babies' for a
long time." But I assure you, it was just yesterday that they were. I remember holding each one of them for the very first time and feeling so thankful and blessed. I remember bath time, feedings with a rubber spoon, and diaper changes (which when I think about, I still feel I need to go wash my hands). I remember the look on Kelli's face the first time she tasted ice cream. I remember Michael being so proud of his muscles, and knowing the words to nearly every Barney song. I remember Matthew mowing the lawn with his little plastic mower, walking three paces behind me as I mowed. And I remember how Anne Marie would cry when I had to quit playing and go to work in the morning. But now as I reflect, I realize that though these events seem like yesterday in my memory, they are long gone. There are new chapters in life that are yet to be written. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know God is good; life is good; and I have been abundantly blessed! Men, slow down enough this weekend to do a little remembering and you'll have countless reasons to give thanks to God on this "Father's Day." |
